Thanks TSgt Joe C. for letting us know that on January 7, 1789 The United States of America held its first presidential election in the 13 original states. Voters cast ballots to choose state electors; only white men who owned property were allowed to vote. As expected, George Washington won the election and was sworn into office on April 30, 1789.

I believe as an observer of the American government that the Electoral College is the right way to hold a presidential election but I wonder if enough resistance has developed against it. Many people cry that each citizen should have a vote electing the president to which I say nothing.
