Yep essentially deputizing volunteers, cross their fingers, and hope for the best.

As opposed to just keeping the failed gun-free zones, no protection and hoping for the best??? Yeah, that’s the definition of insanity if you recall.

And it’s training and deputizing volunteers to the same standards as every other sheriffs deputy in the state.

MSgt George Cater - Actually the proposed training isn't to the same standards as local law enforcement in the state. That was an issue with what was proposed. One time training isn't a standard. The bill would require the state to cover the costs of background checks, drug testing, psychological exams and 132 hours of training. Nothing about recertification, retraining, periodic reviews and testing of teachers. So lets not call it same standards as law enforcement.
I rather have metal detectors, cameras, random bag searches, and armed 2-3 man professional security detail at every school. School staff can do the random bag searches. Put those measures in place and if you still have a gun problem then you can chastise me.
