They were brothers still even though they fought on opposite sides. They fought for what they thought was right.

He was with an Alabama Regiment (49th Infantry) as a Teenager. He moved to Houston Texas after the war and became very active in Confederate Reunions. He befriended a Union Veteran Edwin Shearer and they both lived until the 1920s. There was a Newpaper article when Shearer passed away that talked about how Needham cried at his Funeral.
