This is a very good article. With the immediacy of digital and television news, there are a lot of snaps to judgment. This struck me:
"During the 2016 election, fewer than 3 percent of Americans cited print as their most important source of campaign news; for people under 30, print was their least important source."
I watched some of the news coverage of the shootings. It was non-stop. Corrections, added material, and outlandish opinions dominated for several or more hours. Everything else in the news cycle was lost or unreported for the rest of the day. Thoreau railed against newspapers. Thank goodness he never was acquainted with digital media.
