People can believe whatever they want, sure. But people can't "invent" an actual religion just because they want to. If we allow that, I'm going to start one that has a sacred holiday every Monday and if my employer doesn't let me have the day off, every week, I'll sue for denying me my religious freedoms.

MAJ (Join to see) Actually, the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster won the right to wear a colander on their head for Driver's License Photos as religious head gear. Like I say Scientology is Science Fiction turned religion, so why not Star Wars. Personally, as much as I love Star Wars, I keep it as an entertainment go to. As such I would not want to base faith on my escape from the shitshow that is real life, but if these folks want to that should be up to them.

PO3 Steven Sherrill - I actually thought about referencing the Church of the FSM earlier as a good example of what I was talking about. That "religion" was created not as a legitimate system of faith but as a "you can't prove yours anymore than I can prove mine" sort of thing. If people really believe in Jediism, let them practice their religion like I practice mine. But with this and the FSM, it's not a legitimate system of faith. And the fact that someone in our country was allowed to wear a colander on their head for their DL photo shouldn't surprise anyone. Our society is terrified of offending anyone. Regardless of how ridiculous.

MAJ (Join to see) - I should test that theory. I have my horned helmet, and a license that expires next year.
