Many histories of the PTO cover Imphal and Kohima. They were lynch-pin battles for the British 14th Army. It is frequently thrown about that possible racism kept the large Indian offensive secret. Actually, the 14th Army "contained" Indians but was not "solely" Indian. Special operations ("Chindit") events are assumed to have taken most of the press, but that is strictly not true. The Battle of the Admin Box fed the battle and became the wall against which the Japanese wave would crash itself. Admin Box's attrocities (Japanese bayonetting British wounded to threaten them into surrendering) then give way to British massacre of the Japanese via Grant tanks.
