As a Fayetteville/Spring Lake native, this just sounds like a terrible idea. I get that we've got to maintain proficiency, readiness, deployablility and security, but by that same token, they hire on half-staff of civilian guards, then double down on borrowed guys from the units. Here's a thought: utilize your MPs (increasing your MTOE to allot for it), or hire on a full staff of civilian guards like many other posts have done, and keep the gates open. Because particularly in the Spring Lake area, being that it is so small, these changes cripple the economy of that entire town. Soldiers won't have the time to go around their elbows to get to their assholes just to eat lunch and still get back to work on time. With all the traffic flow, it's hard enough to get around with all the gates open. You cut that in half (which is what they've done) and limit the points of entry during major rush hours, and it becomes controlled anarchy with a slew of other problems (soldiers late to return or missing meals altogether, increased chances of an accidents, businesses being shut down in your community, etc). It's just altogether a bad idea.

I’m currently at Bragg and the new changes definitely take some planning and time to get used to. Luckily, I just moved here so it wasn’t hard to just find alternative routes depending on the times but I hear complaints daily from personnel in my unit.

When I was at Langley AFB in Va., back in early 80s we had 3 main gates and a restricted gate fortruck traffic only.. we only had contractor trucks, UPS, FedEX, and some others using that gate.. it worked good and the freightors bitched it screwed their routes up.. actually they got on and off quicker even with shakedowns.. through the special gate..
