I use LinkedIn for free, why would anyone need to pay for it?

If you have the premium account, you have access to a larger number of InMails each month, and you also have the ability to have your application "featured" if you apply through a job on LinkedIn. Most interviews I've gotten have resulted from times I've used the "featured" application feature. I'm not certain how much of it is because of using the featured app feature, or if it's just because most military people tend to do better when allowed to apply with a resume or profile compared to a cumbersome Applicant Tracking System.

LTC (Join to see) - thanks so much for sharing this information. I guess since I am not really seeking employment, it is more like a social network for me as many of my co-workers are on it as well.

It's intended for job seekers. There's no need to get the one-year free while you're employed. That year might run out, and then when someone happens later on and you're unemployed, you've already used your one free year.
