They aren't even amateurs... they cut-n-paste "warez" that they have only the vaguest of ideas about how they function. Begining & end of college semesters (sometimes high school) are big times for script kiddies. But this was a DDoS attack which is simple in concept but difficult in execution. Especially if you are covering your tracks. They still haven't tracked the source so... probably not script kiddies (BTW, the term goes back to the early '80's at least)

Sir, all security terms get tossed around so much that they have been malformed. A true hacker is not necessarily bad. The definition goes back to college students at MIT working with telephone equipment and old railroad tracks. Just as there are crackers, phreakerz, and many other terms. I will agree with you though that this is probably not the work of script kiddies, though botnets can be bought and used at a relatively cheap price when considering what they can do, a script kiddie probably wouldn't understand what he/she is doing.
