Heh!
I love the occasional interactions with our British cousins across the sea whenever someone online starts in on how American English is "wrong" or otherwise incorrect or messed up.
As I put it to someone years ago, English is the single, most bastardized language on the face of the planet. It has its earliest roots in West Germanic languages and we borrow/steal vocabulary, syntax, spellings, and pronunciations from virtually every other language on the face of the planet.
In light of this, to get on us for our "American English" being so bad is the height of linguistic vanity...especially when they can't explain all those inclusive-R's, mispronunciations of words taken from other languages, etc.
And, interestingly, the English of the UK has diverged more from our colonial period (in which the colonies spoke the King's English, just like them) than American English has. Which is probably what your link is about (I'm fixing to read it as soon as I get done posting).
