We desperately need a President with the experience, integrity and wisdom to lead our nation and to work across the aisle. I know how to do this. I have never compromised my own beliefs. I served with the Republicans as a committee counsel in the congress and as a senior member of the Reagan Administration, and later as a Democrat in the United States Senate. And in both cases we got things done.
I am not a career politician or a revolving-door insider who has cashed in on public service. My periods of government service have been intermixed with an independent career as a writer and sole proprietor. In government I served as a Marine infantry officer in Vietnam, a counsel in congress, an assistant secretary of defense and Secretary of the Navy, and a United States Senator. Check the record. You will see that in every position I brought tangible leadership results.
We need a commander-in-chief who understands the military and the proper exercise of foreign policy. I fought and was wounded in Vietnam. I covered the military as a journalist in such hot spots as Beirut and Afghanistan. I served five years in the Pentagon. And in the Senate I served on the Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committees.
I hold strong views that do not fit easily inside traditional party lines. In October I withdrew from the Democratic primaries to consider an independent run. We have just completed three months of research. We have a clear idea of what it would take to mount an independent campaign.
Getting on the ballot in all fifty states is a costly challenge. Without your financial help it would be impossible. With it, I feel strongly that we can take our country back and restore trustworthy, seasoned leadership to the White House.
A wise philosopher once said, ‘all it takes for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Every day I think of the sacrifices of those who went before us, and the need to preserve the greatness of our country. I cannot remain silent when the consequences of inaction are so serious.
We have reached a moment of truth. 2016 can be the year where an independent candidacy can shape the future of our country.
This will not happen unless you help --- now.
We are being offered false choices for the most important job in the world. Our country’s future depends on something – or, rather someone – better. If you will help me, we can change the political direction of the country. If you choose to remain silent, please remember the consequences of not getting involved.

Capt Walter Miller - I cannot think of a better person who should run for President. Jim Webb understands things much better than any of those currently in the race. Thanks for posting.

Jim Webb is the best candidate running for president -- by far.
Besides graduating from Annapolis at the top of his class, being first in his class of 243 lieutenants at the Basic School, being a platoon and company commander and winning a Navy Cross, Silver Star, two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts in Viet Nam, he was a committee general counsel, congressional staffer, official in the Defense Department, SecNav and senator, he is a NY Times best selling author, has the screenwriting credit for "Rules of Engagement" and he even has a bleeping EMMY.
But the thing that is so awesome is that he resigned as SeNav in protest of what the SecDef asked him to do. It blew me away at the time. Who does that? The story is that the SecDef Carlucci asked him to misrepresent facts to the Congress. He laid it on Carlucci at the time. Awesome. Specifically he was asked to misrepresent the usefulness of a new class of Navy warships.
