Yeah, I heard about this. Not really for those who are afraid of flying...

I fly a lot and am often surprised I have not encountered one of these sorts of events, at least not yet. I was on a flight that had to turn around due to an engine that went out but that was standard protocol, nothing highly concerning. I have flown over 1.8 million miles with Delta, my primary airline, so I get around. Mostly domestic US and Canada although I have had about 20-25 trips to Europe and Asia as well. It is a pretty safe way to travel.

True. We only hear about the really one-off one in a million stories, and never hear about the thousands of perfectly normal and safe flights that take off and land without incident. All commercial aircraft must be able to fly on one engine for a certain amount of time in order to fly passengers. I believe this is covered under ETOPS (Extended Twin-engine OPerationS)

Captain,

Seems like you have an issue with flying if I m not mistaken.

First you mentioned in one thread about things you should worry about as a passenger, and now this with the aforementioned comment of "just the thing you want to see before boarding".

Just want to clarify with you.

Someone asked under what circumstances a passenger on an airliner should worry and I provided a very apt reply. Wouldn't you be worried if you had an airline pilot flying as a passenger sitting next to you and he was obviously worried? As for this one, I was thinking of a friend of mine who read "The Perfect Storm" while sailing to Catalina Island. Not a good idea. Watching this before flying might have the same effect, don't you think?

I'm not a fan of superstition or heebie jeebies... so no I don't think or care what I do or don't read will effect the performance of an airplane, or other mode of transportation.

I was whacked by a drunk driver in 2014, does it scare me when I read articles about drunk drivers in town before I go driving? No... the events are unrelated to each other.

Just as I said, I'm starting to see a pattern here, that's why I was asking.
