Thanks TSgt Joe C. that on May 2, 1939, New York Yankees first baseman Lou Gehrig benched himself for poor play and ends his streak of consecutive games played at 2,130.
It was very sad that developed amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) which is now known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.” For a doctor to have a problem or procedure named after him or herself it is an honor. For a patient it is a terrible misfortune.
