Reserve Component Soldiers need to ensure that a Line Of Duty (LOD) is done if they are injured while on Active Duty. Near the end of their period of Active Duty they should get a copy of their medical records and a print out of appointments prior to demobilization. This can be completed at the hospital of their servicing installation, There needs to be a medical history with "service connection" on what ever is listed in the veterans claim. If the Soldier didn't have an LOD completed they need to go to their Military Treatment Facility and find the person who handles LOD's and complete them. Upon DEMOB I would advise them to get with a service representative like DAV to assist in initiating the VA claim.

CPT (Join to see) my experience has been to make sure you have credible service-connection first before anything! Once you have credible evidence then you can get the ball rolling.
