Oh for the love of God, this country is so PC these days. That is a perfectly valid and acceptable phrase we use in America/English.
stand up for
phrasal verb of stand
1.
speak or act in support of.
"she learned to stand up for herself"
It has nothing to do with one's ability to physically stand (or inability). As a matter of fact, the picture posted with the story she is standing. Just because she's not using her legs doesn't mean she's not standing.
synonyms: be on one's feet, be upright, be erect, be vertical
"Lionel stood in the doorway"
Some staffer probably posted that tweet and then someone was like "hey you realize she doesn't have her legs anymore?" and they immediately realized the mistake or that someone would surely get offended in today's culture, and deleted it.
Do the same people get offended if someone says "Please stand for the playing of the national anthem?"
Soon we will be at the point where we can't say something is stupid, because someone in the formation might have a family member that has low intelligence. Or can't have the Ugly Sweater at Christmas (sorry, make that "Winter Holiday") events because someone might have an ugly family member or be ugly themselves. Next we can't say "boy it's really cold out here" because someone might have a medical condition that makes them cold all the time, and someone will probably be offended that you said boy instead of "younger male" (or more likely "younger whatever gender that person identifies with").
Yes, she lost her legs. I respect the struggles she has gone/is going through. That being said, she should be the first person to clean up the VA for veterans, although they probably don't ignore her condition as Rep. So and So as opposed to SPC So and So.

They've stopped saying please stand for national anthem at least where I've gone and played it they now ask you to please rise for it.

Sad and thoughtless could be said about the tweet and Duckworth's track record.

It was a thoughtless comment that was posted. They took it down after 10 minutes but then chided reporters for not reporting about Ms. Duckworth being sued by VA whistle blowers. Was their real intention to post something tackless or political maneuvering to bring the lawsuit into the news, hoping to draw in voters on the issue. If this was their tactic seems to have backfired on them.

That very well could have been their plan. Maybe trying to shed more light on the Democrat side of the Political Realm, while trying to be funny and tasteless. Both sides should be ashamed of themselves and their lack of interest in the people they serve.
