The prosecutors followed their own DOJ guidance which is to recommend sentences as defined in the federal sentencing guidelines for the crimes he was convicted of. They didnt do anything out of the ordinary. It is DOJ policy. What was very unusual was for the AG to get involved and override the recommendation. The federal sentencing guidelines are based on each crime the person is convicted of. So if Barr feels like those guidelines are much to harsh for the given crimes, why didnt he announce a DOJ review of the guidelines and say they will look to reduce the sentences of others sentenced for the same crimes using the guidelines?

Barrs only interest in the guidelines was because it dealt with Trumps buddy. Barr hasnt sought to reduce the guidelines for anyone else. Just Roger Stone.
