Throughout the centuries of this nation, a higher percentage of rural USA citizens became soldiers, sailors and marines and more recently airmen in proportion to their population that the rest of the nation. I served with many farmers, ranchers, and farm-hands in my 34 years in military service COL Mikel J. Burroughs. Initially coming from an urban environment I was unfamiliar with country life except vicariously.
By the time I was an Infantry 2LT in 1980 I had a strong appreciation for soldiers from the country - work ethic, shooting and tracking were some of the skills they excelled at.
I expect that similarly many veterans have returned to the country to resume being farmers, ranchers and others who work the land or support them.
Kudos to those who fill the breadbasket of this nation.

We do this in our neighborhood. I use to love gardening. So typical me had to prepare for everyone. Nothing better than sharing with your neighbors Fresh Jersey Tomatoes, peaches, grapes, and yes even carrots & lettuce. But truth be told, This is my dream. To own a farm and work the land, nothing better for me, I call it Therapeutic Recreation.

It is very therapeutic Kim Bolen RN CCM ACM. I recall after a hard days of work on the farm, my Aunt let me take a salt shaker out to the tomato patch and eat all the fresh tomatoes I wanted to. Pure joy, sitting on the dirt and chopping down, and to be able to see across the valley in front of me.
