Guantanamo geriatrics? Detainee population quietly ages

Another article sympathetic to unlawful combatant Islamist detainees who want to kill us. This time pining away that we don't do enough for the geriatric needs of the detainees, who now average in age, according to the article, "46.5 years," and the oldest detainee at 70. The definition of "old age" is often debated, but many experts agree that individuals who are 65 or older are considered geriatric. So, a little hyperbole on a slow Gitmo news day? Detainees at the US military detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, enjoy FREE Qurans, prayer rugs/beads, white robes, beards, halal and special Muslim holy day meals, world class health care, services of US military Muslim chaplains, directions to mecca on guard towers and cell floors, recreation, sports, library, DVD's and television. What part of that is not accessible because one is 65 or older? The article never mentions the attacks on the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon or Flight 93, which perished in a field in Pennsylvania on 9/11/01. The article never mentions the Global War on Terror, which rages on. Selective historical memory is the poison society cannot afford to take. If we are to defeat the enemy we must be consistent in how we treat detainees. They must know that unless they are cooperative they will remain at Gitmo "until the end of hostilities," as per the Geneva Conventions. Those who commit war crimes should look forward to a military commission that is fair, just, but also swift, like that for six of eight German saboteurs who were caught dry-foot on US soil during WWII, and were denied habeas corpus, tried by military commission and then executed by electric chair less than eight weeks after their capture. It isn't rocket science. Until all Islamists are dead or no longer have the means or will to kill us we must defend ourselves, and Gitmo is a small piece to the big puzzle of how we win the Global War on Terror.
