We lost one of our own here in Iowa just last year. The surf is nothing like most are used to and most over estimate their own abilities. Might be time to limit access for the benefit of the whole.

Unfortunately this is not the first to be lost in this area. And these will be the last. This and Okinawa have claimed more than their share of our troops

SSG Shavonde Chase I have been there twice and the riptides are awesome. There is a calmer section on the other side of the island to snorkel. But most of the surf coming in around the island is turbulent to say the least. Beautiful, but deadly.
