MSgt Cayle Harris Comparing states to countries I find less interesting than the number of guns owned in the far left leaning California and New York.

PO3 Steven Sherrill I agree. The numbers were eye opening.

It's likely too that many of those guns are owned by a very small percentage of that population.

SSG (Join to see) - That would be an interesting infographic. Number of guns owned versus percentage of population who are gun owners.

Liberals have always said one thing and done another. This just puts another nail in the coffin for liberal logic. In public, they are anti-gun. In private, they all own a gun or two.

What is interesting to me is that California, which has some of the strictest gun laws in the country has over 33 million guns, even more than Texas. What that tells me is that the liberals don't practice what they preach. Everyone has one (or three), but no one talks about it.

Yeah but what does that come to per capita? MT and WY have way lower populations but way higher percentage of gun owners

California also has 1.5x the population of Texas so it really should not be a surprise that they would have more firearms even with the restrictions they have. Plus, remember the eastern portion of the state along with the middle section has a completely different makeup than SoCal or their capital region.

SSgt (Join to see) - You are correct. Except for SoCal and the Bay Area, most of California is not as liberal as it seems.

I would imagine that this chart takes into account the law enforcement officers from the 3 biggest states that have firearms. A lot of people don't realize how big the prison systems are in California and New York as well, many of those guards have firearms. Also I have noticed a rise in Texas of private security companies... many of which are armed security.

You would be suprised how many LEO's only possess one gun (the one issued by their departments). In my career, I was often suprised how many cops are not really gun enthusiats. However, on the other hand, I knew a few that owned many many guns.

I agree with you, I have also noticed a trend with some medium sized agencies that require their officers to purchase a particular weapon for use on duty... Austin PD in Texas for example makes each new officer purchase their own Smith and Wesson M&P, and that's the only one allowed. In Dallas where I work they issue Sig, but have a list of approved weapons and calibers that you can choose to carry.
