Sgt Wayne Wood I can't really disagree with her on the conveyor belt education. It seems that schools now teach kids to pass a standardized test rather than to be free thinkers. I am glad that this wasn't the case when I was growing up. She really has a bittersweet story. It is an amazing story that came with a high personal cost to this young lady. I hope she finds a happy successful life.

Living in northeast Washington and working in a gun shop in the 90's, I knew some of those "survivalist" types. Some were not as radical as others, but they are and were a special breed.
As to the self-education, it can be a poor choice, as "you don't know what you don't know." This lady did all right because she needed to expand her knowledge to further her education. I've know some that did not have that drive and were content to get all their education from the family. I personally know one young man (probably around 35 now) that read nothing but the Bible. I am not knocking the Bible, but in today's world, that is not enough.
Sorry, but I do not believe in "home-schooling" or self-educating as a stand-alone system of education.

yup... ran into all kinds in the Cascades & The Sierras...
interestingly, those who *WANTED* an education got it... and seemed to do very well.
i guess it comes down to priorities.

Very interesting. I read the article about research indicating Trump supporters can’t be reached because they are close minded. There was a long ranging discussion about a lt f issues. It is my contention that many journalists are far more close minded, I find the same thing among many liberals ans she seems to also. Gee if we could nay be like North Korea and have to think alike.
