Unfortunately, the politicians are so disconnected from truth that they are useless.

From the article: "Felons report that they avoid entering houses where people are at home because they fear being shot." One of the downfalls of living in Texas is that whenever Mr. Poop Butt enters a home illegally and the homeowners defends themselves and their families by blowing Poop Butt away, the police call it self defense and justifiable. I don't like that. This is Texas, for crying out loud, not California. Poop Butt had to know what was waiting for him. Call it what it is -- suicide! The homeowner just wound up being an unwilling participant.

Estimates of DGUs vary greatly, since there is little "hard data". People who have displayed a gun ( NOT "brandished", which suggests aggression) to stop a crime are not going to report a non-crime to the police, especially if their possession of the gun was not legal.
Such an "undocumented" DGU doesn't become data.
