I would refer you to the voting Act of 1965. It also was challenged. SCOTUS allowed it.

Apples and oranges. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was very specifically targeted and solidly grounded in enforcement of the intent of the 15th Amendment, banning "literacy tests" as well the poll taxes under the 24th amendment.

PO1 Kevin Dougherty - Where it applies is that the Federal Government stepped on State laws and caused them to be changed. Same-same.

I’m curious how this will stand up to the 10th Amemdmemt. Voting/elections are squarely in the power of the individual States. Some may go along quietly but I can’t imagine most will let this fly without a fight.
