Corporate espionage has been a problem for a long time. If you believe all of the studies, you have more risks from internal staff than you do from someone trying to penetrate your network. An attack strategy that uses both employees being compromised with network penetration efforts by outsiders means you are well in the 90% level as to being compromised and losing your information. Working in Silicon Valley, a very target rich environment, I have seen and investigated these threats many times over the past thirty years. It's a challenge most CIO/CISO's would prefer not to discuss, except among themselves. I still believe in multiple overlapping 90% solutions and well trained IT and Security staff to minimize the problem. There is no such thing as a 100% solution.

Yep. The VAST majority of things that get hacked/cracked/broken are accomplished via social engineering.
