Posting the trailer and also a review. CAUTION, there may be some unintentional spoilers in it, but the main plot is well known. Hes a C.O. who ends up being awarded the Medal of Honor. My thoughts on the movie is, that its entertaining, with a lot of exceptionally well done special affects but lacks high quality acting and leaves out some of the major historical events while fabricating some simply for Hollywood.
Andrew Garfield does an adequete job of portraying Doss, however the supporting cast seems nothing more than a typical Hollywood overkill of military stereotypes. The short part on the units initial training is unrealistic and lacking and the movie makes the jump from Stateside to the Battle for Hacksaw, giving the impression that this was the unit's ( and Doss's) first time in Combat. In reality Doss and the 77th Division had seen combat on Guam, in the Phiilipines and Ie Shima before going to Okinawa proper. Doss had already been awarded 2 bronze stars for bravery by then and was a respected and trusted member of his Company. Also the movie left out one of the last actions Doss did on Okinawa because Mel Gibson thought it would make the film too " unbelievable".
The story of Corporal Desmond Doss is incredible and if nothing else the movie will encourage people to read about it. As for the movie the Action Scenes are its biggest draw. Everything else is average at best
