Thanks LTC Orlando Illi Thanks for sharing the unsurprising news that the UN security Council is divided on how to deal with North Korea.
Since North Korea has executed six ICBM and/or nuclear tests this century, including one tis Monday, there is a sense of urgency.
1. The USA and western nations of France, Britain, Italy are strongly in favor of increased sanctions on north Korea.
2. "Russia and China have both proposed a two-pronged approach: North Korea would suspend its nuclear and missile development, and the U.S. and South Korea would suspend their joint military exercises, which they say are defensive but Pyongyang views as a rehearsal for invasion."
I support
1. continued military exercises with our regional allies and
2. banning North Korea "from exporting coal, iron, lead and seafood products. Together those are worth about a third of the country’s $3 billion in exports last year."
3. being prepared to overwhelmingly destroy North Koreas abilities to launch nuclear attacks via, land, sea or air.

This kind of posturing is not good for anyone. Quiet diplomacy is warranted. Otherwise leadership plays to their domestic base in both countries - and their language pushes everyone to very costly military engagement. If you are going to strike - say so quietly and directly - or strike without any warning to take out research and development, manufacturing, storage, transport, and launch sites. Conventional air bombardment would destroy most of these sites - unconventional bunker busters would at least deeply seal up most other sites - and if you really have to make a show drop a nuke - something tactical - with a passive fast fission U-238 secondary in shaped charge format to drive a hole a few miles deep into the ground. Warmest Regards, Sandy :)
p.s. The N Korean design looks a lot like China's Dongfeng-41 (DF-41) thermonuclear warhead.

Kerry was not a child when he betrayed his oath of office Lieutenant. He was a serving Officer. He testified before Congress and uttered proven falsehoods regarding combat operations that he had no participation in. You posted his picture allegedly to bolster your position that diplomacy will cause the Porcine One to back away from his nuclear program. So if you don't want it to be about former failures in Diplomacy orchestrated by Kerry (see the Iranian appeasement) - then don't post pictures of him.

LTC Orlando Illi - I posted a photo of a guy in a state department office many years later - not even caring if it was Kerry - just some generic male diplomat. Don't get hung up on Kerry - and whatever testimony troubled you. Warmest Regards, Sandy :)

1LT Sandy Annala - my point is that diplomacy will never work unless both parties are open to a rapprochement. If I learned anything at National Defense University - it is that rogue regimes like Iran and North Korea will never succumb to anything through diplomatic actions. They view diplomacy as a delaying tactic - to be used as a smoke screen so they may continue their nefarious activities while appearing to negotiate in good faith until they can present the world with a Fait Accompli. That is reality - unencumbered by wishful thinking

LTC Orlando Illi - I seriously hope not - but I am jaded enough to believe we need to nuke them at least once to make the point of the message loud and clear. Warmest Regards, Sandy :)
"They called your bluff."
POTUS draws lines, makes threats, and... continues to draw lines and make threats.
45: "No more missile tests!"
KJU: Tests missiles. Threatens Guam.
45: "Very bad. Sad. No more tests! Fire and Brimstone!"
KJU: Shoots missiles OVER Japan - (which, as a I recall, is the first time that's been done by NK).
45: "So angry! Bad things! You'll be sorry! Don't do it again! Or else! At least he didn't test a nuke."
KJU: Tests nuke. Readies ICBM on the pad.
USA: "Strongest possible sanctions! Begging for war!"
Someone is bluffing, I agree with that.

Oh Trump is not bluffing. Showing restraint - yes. The last time I was in Seoul was 2010. North Korea has Seoul in the range fan of hundreds of large caliber Artillery Pieces. You know that - you are at ground zero. The Porcine One expects Trump to back down and bribe him with more money. Unfortunately, Trump is not Monica's Boyfriend and what Kim wants is not in the cards. Kim may think he is winning and that no one will hit his ICBM and Nuclear assets. Maybe he is right. The fact that he does not know for sure is what makes his sabers rattling dangerous.
