Happy Birthday to World war II Navy Veteran and Actor Kirk Douglas.
Born Issur Danielovitch on December 9, 1916, Kirk Douglas is the son of poor, Russian-Jewish immigrants. After stints in the U.S. Navy and on Broadway, Douglas broke into the movies with The Strange Love of Martha Ivers. He went on to critical acclaim in such films as 1952's The Bad and the Beautiful and 1956's Lust for Life. One of his biggest hits was 1960's Spartacus.

SGT John " Mac " McConnell Go figure, but I love the movie the Vikings. It is not historically accurate in any way, but it is a fun movie. In addition to Douglas, it features Janet Leigh, Ernest Borgnine (another WWII Navy Vet), Tony Curtis (another WWII Navy Vet), and was narrated by the great Orson Welles. All that Navy in a movie about the original masters of the sea. My favorite scene in the movie is the running of the oars.
