I dont expect a California based publication to understand anything going on in the breadbasket states. Kansas USD 475 is the best school system I have ever had my kids in. It proves that it is the teachers, parents, and students (and not money or technology) that makes schools successful.

Guess what? Has Kansas USD 475 won any international awards? All I know is that the well funded, socialized schools in Finland, China, Sweden, etc. all test MUCH, MUCH higher than the most prestigious American schools, let alone some random underfunded school district in Kansas.

International awards? Like the Nobel Peace Prize that President Obama received for doing absolutely nothing? No thanks.
Name some recent (50 years) internationally relevant product or invention that came from Finland, China, or Sweden without using Google. From the 'dumb as bricks' America I can mention Google, Android, and most likely, the OS you are using to read this. Not bad for a country that is this young.
Its what you later do with the education that's important.

Its also interesting that in all three of those countries, English is taught in those schools. Its not because of Canada. I cant seem to find a public school that teaches Dutch, Finnish, Swedish, Cantonese or Mandarin.

Um no, the economic fallacies in the author's piece and the Kansas tax plan are egregious. Clearly this is a puff piece designed to take things out of context to use as an assault against big government. first off the Laffer Curve is a long term effect not a two year instant results, secondly attempting dramatic economic changes like this without expecting a short term budget disaster shows the clear lack of economics on the part of their governor and state legislatures. Third this was not a reduction in taxes as much as it way a way to pander to their base.
In terms of the Laffer curve this is just proof that in the short term the marginal tax rate was lower than optimal, or are you really arguing that at 0% income tax or 100% tax revenues would be $0.

The problem with the Laffer Curve is that politicians use it as an excuse to lower taxes that are already low. Some people will argue that taxes are too high, no matter what the tax rate is. Even the Reagan administration's own Treasury Department denied the Laffer Curve works effectively. They estimated that only 10% of the tax cuts would be replaced by increased revenue. That was the best case scenario. Attempts to measure the curve are difficult due to its vagueness and the multitude of taxes that affect the economy. To many economists the average Laffer curve is estimated to be at 70%. This means that taxes have to be over 70% before cutting them will raise income. Seeing as no country collects 70% of its GDP in taxes, this essentially means the theory is useless. Supply side econ is based more on ideology than on evidence, as supply and demand are equally important.

You do realize we had a 99% income tax for several decades, and there are many on the Sanders side who are advocating for a 90% tax right. I concur it probably doesn't apply to Kansas and it is certainly not a bell curve.
