The carrier plain goes into the stratosphere m not space and at less 10 percent of orbital velocity, the payload carrier releases and goes the rest of the way without having to posh though the soup of the lower atmosphere, Think of the aircraft part as a huge reusable the first stage,

Belt and suspenders. It doubles the chance of one of them being right and i think that they both have a primary goal putting us seriously back in space. The great part is that both can win, it is not a binary situation.
