It sounds like what happens to healthcare workers in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Myanmar and various other developing countries. News now often mentions nurses and doctors in the U.S. being harassed in many parts of the country. Retired nurses like myself would have to pay thousands of dollars and spend at least hundreds of hours for retraining to work as a nurse. Nurses' wages are not keeping up with other college graduates. A lot of what nurses used to do have been pushed on to technicians without the training in biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, mental health, etc - people whose pay starts at about $20 an hour. Nurses occasionally go on strike, and the main reason has always been compromised in quality of care, such as under-staffing. In the U.S. fewer babies die or have long term effects of genetic defects because of our science- testing at birth, testing the mothers, required childhood immunizations, and so on. If you're going to survive until 80, 90 or 100, thank science, not Congress or your favorite President. I'm not as tired of providing healthcare as losing the opportunity to do it, so I sometimes go overseas to do it as a volunteer. Stay healthy and get vaccinated please.
