SN Greg Wright thank you for posting this. I'm loving this article been a fan of the merchant marines. Running supply lines had to be one of the most dangerous assignments during the war besides maybe being bomber crew and all the most hazardous duties were often located in the Atlantic during the early days of the war with U Boats and all we lost many good Mariners running cargo to keep England in the fight. Thanks for sharing this unknown tale.

In fact, Merchant Marines had THE highest rate of loss of any of the services during WW2. 3.9% vs the next closest, the Marines, @ 2.9%

PO1 Don Gulizia - You'd be safe to reassure her. I don't think there'll ever be such wide-scale civilian shipping losses again. Only a couple of countries are capable of inflicting it, and we're entirely more capable now of stopping them than we were in ww2.
