I'd prefer to have the soldiers doctor and/or psychologist determine if surgery is elective or medically necessary instead of Army bureaucrats.

Or better yet, get it in writing from your recruiter, because if it is not in the contract..

CPT Pedro Meza - Wouldn't it be sad if people joined just to get the free surgery?

Sgt Chris Lima - You mean like I did twice to get the GI Bill (1974 and 2003), look at this way after serving for three or four years what ever benefit you qualify for use it. I was I was still serving, I would say you are Chi Tea Boy and you are Intel gathering Gal, and the the Taliban would say better increase the price on Meza's head again; which I always monitored because there is nothing worse then when it starts at $10,000.

wasting money again. How about giving us what we already earned without having to go thru years of waiting on a dam broken VA system and red tape that goes with it.

Amber- I agree with you about paying for elective surgeries... whatever they are. The article does say that it must be deemed medically necessary, but like the guys above me, I'd be wary of who we allow to make that decision. I'm sure (I hope) it won't be a single-point decision.

I agree SGT, it all depends on who is the one deeming it medically necessary.
