I'm not there -- but I can walk into any grocery store with the knowledge I can afford whatever I want... that was a metric I had when I was younger. And although comfortable, i am feeeling the drag of the economy now... those not in a position like me are no doubt feeling more.
I do prefer the everyone gets more in a booming economy to the current only the rich...

A) It was a whopping 1000 participants
B) It was conducted by Schwab using (presumedly) their investment clients or potential investment clients.
C) There is no definition of "wealthy" included. Do we mean independently wealthy as in able to support yourself indefinitely without a job? Or comparatively wealthy as in able to afford the nice things in life, and not have to overly worry about money? Or something else like can spend any amount of money at will?
A+B+C = this survey is crap.
I have a net worth right around $150K. Maybe even as high as $200K. I ain't *quite* wealthy - which I would consider as a term for the upper class (the comparatively wealthy category above) - but I am pretty durned close. I own two homes (one is rented out) - but both are still on a mortgage (one HEAVILY mortgaged) - my wife and I own our cars outright (no payments), we can pay our bills without worry, go out for date night once a week, and even put away a little money every month for a future vacation. Comfortable, not wealthy. But if we were making what we are currently making and both of my mortgages were paid - a grand total net worth around $450K - we would be downright RICH.
