I remember back in the day, we would get a little liberty from 29 Palms and grab the Desert Stage Lines bus over to Hollywood through a slew of towns on the way. There would usually be about 8-10 of us. We would have been in for some of that action strolling down Hollywood Blvd. Some people are pushing the edge of others civility. Attacking another Marine would have been a precursor to a bloodletting. The First Sergeant would have approved. That was back when there was tolerance for Marines being Marines.

Cpl Jeff N. I remember as a young sailor waiting to go down to TJ, until after the Marines would have well and truly been partying hard for awhile. Then we would start fights with them (no one really ever got hurt) and we all would drink the rest of the night away, and the sailors made sure the Marines made it back across the border and on base... All good fun and camaraderie.

LT Brad McInnis - Every Monday morning as a DIVO on a CG out of San Diego, I winced when inevitably someone was missing. Next call was to Shore Patrol, who normally confirmed they were 'negotiating' the release - usual cost to the Federales was one flight jacket. When the cost went up, the Admiral would close the border until it went back down, which didn't take very long.

Apparently, the kid that instigated the fight is facing federal hate crime charges. The Marine and the Pastor reached out to his mother to tell her that they will drop all charges if the kid comes on their show to talk... wouldn't hold my breath. It is amazing how these kids resort to violence, and are so triggered by someone who thinks differently than they do. Says a lot about the educational system, and parenting (or lack thereof) in general.....
