Veterans are Accountable! Reliable! Punctual! Humble and Trustworthy! Why not hire them?

When hiring Veterans companies are given incentives by the government especially if the Veteran has disabilities.

Interesting slideshare. I have never seen or considered a somewhat modified hierarchy of needs tied in to veterans and post employment. I wonder what civ employers think of it.

I want to be sensitive to their needs, fears, questions, and experiences, which are unique. I don't pretend to know all the ling or acronyms, but I do ask questions. Most of all, I want to be respectful. My challenge, is how to reach more veterans, to let them know about our career opportunity. I'll be at SACC in a few months, but otherwise, just trying to connect via social media. I've met some great people and even if this isn't a fit for them, they all provide great feedback and are always helpful. Thank you for your service.

I never occurred to me that someone might view that as patronizing. The same could apply to any career changer. Making a career change can be scary for anyone. People who have not had to write a resume or interview in over a decade can be intimidating. I think it's important to be aware of this if you work with people.

The bottom line its a two way street, a partnership. I hear that the civilian employer dont understand how to interview a veteran......I say that the veteran has to learn their value and what the can do for an organization. You can go down a rabbit hole having a certain way to interview veterans, HS schoolers, non-degreed individual, college graduate. It has to be a standard process and those that want to be in the game has to educate themselves and compete. I think in some aspect the military made it bad for us by doing everything from moving you from point A to B, picking and selecting your next duty station, telling you how much your pay is going to be.....on and on building a very independent service member

Cathy Suarez - i actually wrote a white paper (primer) for civilians when interviewing military. Maybe it will help, PM me and we can find a way to get it to you. I would attach it here but cant find a way on RP to send a file that isn't a photo.
