YouTube has a channel of Medal of Honor: Oral Histories that is fascinating to view. My favorite is the story told by Sammy Davis because I was honored to participate in the investigation and documentation of his act of valor. A Medal of Honor recommendation takes a team effort and results in a thoroughly documented incident. Of all the recipients, Davis is one of the most humble and deserving men I ever met. I worked on three others that were also awarded, but his remains preeminent in my memory

Thanks SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL for posting the history of the Medal of Honor along with a link to the website. It has been a few years since I saw the hall of Heroes in the Pentagon.
Every time I went past it, the site brought a surge of deep emotions.
