Thank you for sharing, I was going ton post something about his death tomorrow. This is hard on the SeaBee community and he is remembered all over the Seabee community and he has a Ship named after him. He was also promoted to Master Chief CUCM. He had two brothers the younger was a SW SeaBee diver just like him. I served with his younger brother Pat. His other brother was a Navy SEAL and retired as a Senior Chief. The SEAL was in a recruiting poster for SEALs back in early 90's that was a famous photo of him and 3 other team members and he did for Robert.
The SeaBees have an award that is given out every year just like the Marvin Shield award. This award is like a valor or Live saving award given to SeaBee who has preformed above the norm and or has put his own life on the line to help others. The awardee receives the award and a Rolex watch.
I also like to point out he was or is a SeaBee and then Diver not just a Navy Diver....
