Most indoor ranges that I've been able to shoot max out at about 27-30 yards. Have not yet looked for outdoor ranges where we now live. I do like to practice out to 30 yards when I can. Would like to practice even further out. Makes hitting 20 feet seem like child's play (the average range for most self defense encounters as I understand it).
But, then again, 500 meters with a M-16 on semi-auto was a standard training/marksmanship range in the Marine Corps. Once you figure you can hit a dinner plate at that range, your confidence goes way the hell up! KD course was 200m, 300m & 500m. (Now everything I can find online says yards. Oh well.)
PS: That was with iron sights, no red dot, no scope, just a peep and post...

Shooting ten rounds in fifteen seconds is a piece of cake, but connecting at forty yards is a bit harder. I have hit a 12" plate at 35 yards, but not consistently. I'm looking forward to being able to shoot outdoors again when they reopen this fall.
