Wow this has major ramifications for the future of China. If it cannot keep it's promise of non-interference in Hong Kong it is only going to make things worse for potential reunification with Taiwan. I can't say I am surprised this happened because at the start of the deal with Hong Kong, it was clear to most China had no real interest in maintaining it's sovernity. What's next for Hong Kong? Massive capital flight? Mass emigration? Complete destruction of it's strong economy and a hallowing out of it's former self? Sad to watch. One can only hope the Chinese regime comes to it's senses but I don't think that will happen. Also appears their strategy with the trade negotiations is to stall indefinitely both issues are going to bite them hard on future economic growth and might even lead at some point to civil unrest on the mainland.
