I know one problem with being a veteran in civilian life.
It could just be me but the world isn't "honest".
It is full of deceit and subterfuge committed by the very folks who hire us.
To them it is a normal way of life.. They aren't bad ..mostly.. they are just accustomed to doing business with others who operate the same way.
As an honest individual I have forever had difficulties when I find out I am being cheated or poorly treated by those who I see as my superiors.
In the military there is a chain of command and of course not everything is readily apparent to those who are a few pay grades below their superiors.
Yet as a rule the chain of accountability and expected honesty is followed in reasonable fashion.
It has always been difficult for me to move away from that. My profession requires enormous intergrity, personal accountability, and near perfection. Mistakes are easily made but any mistake is bad.
Being surrounded by those who can make fairly significant errors and blow them off is hard.
This may seem rambling but I hope it is recognizable as a difficulty other have struggled with.

PO3 John Wagner - Take care of the vampire! He is corrupting your integrity and resolve. You are too good of a man to give until that crap.

SPC Douglas Bolton - He isn't corrupting my integrity. Challenging my fears.
My resolve never seems to falter. Once I decide on a course of action in my moral or spiritual life I can't say I have ever turned my back on it.
Every day is a test. I often fail but I keep getting back on the horse.
The tests that are the hardest to pass are the ones I give myself. I often fail but I keep going back in the end. I am not satisfied with mediocre results. When I fail again I look for opportunities to succeed. Never being satisfied with mediocrity is the grace I have been given. I learn my limitations but a man's known limitations help him to define the level of success he can be pleased with.
