House Passes Farm Bill With Controversial Work Requirements

I don't mind the work requirement,, if there are jobs available.

Sounds reasonable to me

I used to be a food stamp case worker in 1998-1999. The work requirements were a part of the program even back then. They were ridiculously easy though and people could "claim" self-employment and "self-report" their earnings. I had a case of a "single" man living in his car who earned only $60.00 on average per month. This at the time was the max a person could claim and still earn full food stamp benefits. However, another case worker got sick and her cases were distributed to the rest of us. I then got a case for a "single" mother of one. In her documents was a signed statement from my "single" man stating that he paid her $260 per month for rent. I don't know how long they had been scamming the system, but they finally got caught because I ended up with both cases at the same time. But anyway, those work requirements are easy. Here at my current job, we are "host" to several current recipients. My employer takes a group of individuals and gives them a place to "work" while they get paid from the state. It's a win-win. The county isn't out the money to pay an employee, the person gets a work site and meets their work requirement, and maybe even gets a little more on the job training for another position. In fact, we've already lost some who ended up gaining full time employment elsewhere. But still those job requirements were only recently dropped during the Obama era before being included again.
