It's pretty clear that Russia would quickly find itself mired in as many guerrilla wars as nations they invade. Russians may pine for the "good ole days" when Stalin ran things, but I don't think that any former Warsaw Pact Nations share their nostalgia...

When I was in Afghanistan Georgians were there training, one who spoke English told us, they were training with the U.S. for one reason, if the Russians invade again like the did in 2008, their goal was to send as many Russians home in body bags as possible. They did not think they could win a war but wanted to inflict as much damage as possible.

SSG (Join to see) War of attrition. Make the enemy (who would be fighting far from home) lose the will to continue the fight. Create political tension that forces the government to reevaluate their position.
