How Do Rugged Laptops Work?

The rugged laptops should have innards mounted to rubber for shock. The keyboard should have a rubber layer over top for dirt and water protection as well as any connection points for power and peripheral devices. Your standard laptop is not designed for field useage.

Took my regular Toshiba to Iraq. Dust was my biggest problem and it got to a point where I took it apart to do a deep cleaning. This I learned to never do again because it was a real pain putting back together. I still have that beat up Toshiba Laptop and it still works.

Solid state... in more ways than one.
