How many defectors escape North Korea and why don't we hear more from them?

One of the issues is that defectors often find it hard to assimilate into the South Korean culture. They go from a state where everything is provided for them (albeit poorly) into a hyper-competitive modern world over a short period of time.

Another issue is similar to one experienced by defectors from the former Soviet Union... choices/decisions.
Going from a society with NO CHOICES to one where you have a wide selection of toilet paper (for example) is a shock.

SPC (Join to see) very well said it takes so much effort to learn how to live in South Korean society especially coming from a communist socialist dictatorship. That's why there is good few that can't adapt and want to go back to the south because they don't know how to provide for themselves.
