I wholeheartedly agree with this article. I adjusted well in the corporate world due to a previous position at Goldman Sachs. Don't get me wrong, after 6 years in the service, there were still some getting used to, but I manged well. We recently just hired a service member that still has a hard time adjusting. I've been tasked to work with him.

One of the greatest challenges for veterans is going from a regimented, disciplined environment to a situation where there are few "fences/border" and the systems for resolving issues are more nebulous. Once had to speak with a previous female marine gunnery sergeant (still a marine) about calling everyone who came to the supply window a "no-good cock sucker who didn't know shit about what they needed". She struggled to understand why they were about to fire her. We talked for a long time about the frustration of coming from a regulation driven environment into a place where everyone was hyper sensitive. She eventually left the company because she couldn't navigate the new reality. Hardest worker we ever had....
