I could get behind this if it was made cost-effective. The technology has a ways to go, at least in the civilian world. Perhaps the military will come up w/ a way to make it more affordable?

Economically extracting electrical energy from sunlight after it has passed through the atmosphere is akin to extracting a drop of ink diluted in a barrel of water. Thus, solar power will never survive independent of subsidies and we simply can't afford to subsidize it any longer. Wind power is another pipe dream. It's time to explore more viable solutions and stop feeding the coffers of political entrepreneurs.
