The MLA and AP style manuals are designed not to offend. That in itself becomes offensive. As an Engllish teacher, I have seen drastic changes since the seventies. I have seen at least eight editions of the MLA. While I understand the need for precision and neutrality in formal papers, it can also damage reading, writing, and critical thinking by the over-analyzing of each and every word. I would advise every one to read Politics and the English Language by George Orwell.

Yeah, no. All this is, as I read it, is whining about why some words are appropriate for Stylebook. For instance, the passage that read "For example, the guide instructs journalists to "try to avoid describing political leanings." However, journalists usually ignore the guide in referring to Republicans as "right wing." At the same time, they almost never describe Democrats as "left-wing.""
For a group that likes to call Liberals, Democrats and Progressives "snowflakes," they are definitely exhibiting the same behavior they deride

Additionally, why do you care? Many of the "news sources" many Republicans follow and get their information from don't follow AP Stylebook anyway
