Do you know when and why the US Coast Guard received its blue and orange stripes?
For this old, retired Coast Guard senior chief, I will admit that I don't remember receiving a lot of USCG history lessons when I came aboard. This link proves that you can teach an old dog new tricks!!! Now, don't say you haven't been told about this invaluable military information. There might be a test some day!!!

Great history lesson, thanks for the share.
I sure wish that a unit history was a part of in processing into a new unit across the branches. I think it would help with unit cohesion and morale. To understand the historic significance of my branch and unit(s) actions, I believe, would have benefitted me greatly while I was serving. For me this knowledge only became available later in life thanks to the Internet.
I've heard that the Corps do impart some history to recruits. Is anyone aware of the current situation?
