A true, super-intelligent AI will be able to increase it's own intelligence exponentially, nearly without limit. A single day's lead time over any other true AI will be insurmountable for follow-on AI's. For this reason, it is my belief (and I lay no claim to any sort of expertise beyond that imparted by my MIS degree) that the first one to come into existence will be the only one - it will not allow others or, if it does, will sharply limit their intellectual growth. Frankly, the thought is scary. But who knows? Maybe a super-intelligent AI will run humanity better than we do.

Watch this...get the book also, it's on Good reads, I read it in high school...that whole topic has been quite literally beaten into the ground,, every possible Frankenstein scenario has already been envisioned, in every possible sci fi arena there is, it's gonna happen, how it's gonna happen, cause it's gonna happen, whether now, later, tomorrow, whenever...worrying about it is like shoveling against the tide, after awhile, you just give up and let the tide surge in, you know? There's absolutely zeromyou can do about it, I've program!ed everything that's programmable, if it walks, crawls, talks, flies, and plugs in, I've deisnged itz taken it apart, put it back together again, it'll happen just because that's evolution for ya, and worrying about it isn't gonna do squat, total bupkas, whether someone designs it in a box, or the Internet goes cognitive, whatever...it's just gonna happen, because ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny, pure biology, merely being replaced by technology, nothing more to it than that, fighting it or worrying about it is just like fighting the inexorable need to climb a hill, the human race was predestined to create AI for the simple reason of six billion humans beating on typewritersz, the whole thing is just simply that inexorable, honest, that's how I think about it, at any rate....
