How the Military Became the Country's Largest Employer of Transgender Americans

Reasons for joining are different for each individual. They range from hiding who they are from others and themselves. Also hopefully maybe change who they are. In a society where it is very socially unacceptable to be transgender; a person at first may try to deny who they are even to their self. Eventually the male or the female gender that the is will come out. The longer a person waits to transition to who they were meant to be the stronger the struggle becomes.
